Running in Race for Life is always a fantastic experience!! There is a real feeling of camaraderie – running for a great cause. It’s a very humbling day.
Raising money for the race is so easy, you just set up a page on justgiving.com and the rest is done for you. None of this sponsorship form nonsense – it’s all done on-line, which makes it easy for people to give their money.
I really wanted to beat my time from the previous year of 36mins, and so trained really hard for it. I was really looking forward to the day, as the year before 4 of us had taken part and it was lots of fun, all running together and the celebrations afterwards were well worth the effort!!
Unfortunately, due to illness, this year I ran it on my own, but that didn’t deter me – I plugged in my ipod and, after a fun warm-up, bobbed along with thousands of other women, all running for Cancer Research. Each person wears a runner number on their front, and a bib on their back with a persons name, showing who they are running for. This is the most moving thing about the race – everyone, however old they are, has been touched by someone who has suffered, or is suffering with cancer. The most moving are those people with “Me” written on their back, it just makes you run that little bit harder.
I ran the race in 33 mins, which beat my previous time – I was over the moon!! I also raised £305 online, which meant that Feel Good would match this, and make it £610. It made all the training and tiredness worthwhile.
Now, I just have to beat my time again in next years race!!
